About the song:

Hello, my friends! Allow me to share with you the tale of why I chose this particular song. Typically, I would select a piece featuring a bass player I hold in high regard and pinpoint the exact lines and fills that I aspire to incorporate into my own playing. However, this song holds a special place in my heart because this is from a session I did last year. And while some may consider this self-indulgent, my goal remained the same: to objectively scrutinize the bass line and interpret it from the perspective of someone else.

“It was about seeing with sudden clarity, in those lonely 2ams, the generations of women standing like an impenetrable wall before me, these giants protecting me, embracing me, going first, sending this love letter down our bloodline and tucking it into my heart: ‘you are the product of all the magic that came before, and you are magic too’.”

Lisa De Angelis

Produced by Paul Bain and Lisa De Angelis, with yours truly on Bass. Some moments that I am proud of from this bassline:

Bars 13-16, 27-30 and 45-52 – the growing complexity of each chorus.
Bar 36 – the unexpected rallentando into the bridge. Wish me luck when we play that live!

Bars 40-43 – the busier than normal, albeit simple, fills.
